The Lowest-Rated Titles of 2025, Per Metacritic

Across the internet, enthusiasts are quick to share their rankings of the best titles of 2025. Yet, where are the flops, the low achievers? It's time to take a few moments to honor the absolute worst games of the year, according to the aggregate scores from Metacritic. Is every one of these games truly as terrible as their scores suggest? We shall see.

10. Switch 2's Welcome Tour

Aggregate Score: 54/100, User Score: 3.4/10

The early response to this showcase title were colored by its $9.99 price tag, with many expressing disappointment it wasn't a complimentary title like competing console launches. Critical opinion was quite mixed, from "crushing disappointment" to slightly kinder takes that noted the polished software underneath the controversy. In spite of the controversy, the title proved to be a notable seller during its launch month.

9. Rennsport

Metascore: 53/100, Audience Score: 3.2/10

Presented as "beyond a racing game," this driving sim from European developers was met with pretty unanimous reviews. Critics noted that the game was lacking in key areas, notably in a year packed with excellent racing experiences. For many, this disappointing sim was advised to be left unplayed.

8. The Purrfect Bubsy Collection

Aggregate Score: 53/100, User Score: 8.6/10

To begin with: the confusing title grammar is a silly strike against it. This anthology of retro mascot platformers revives a rude feline known for non-stop quips. The consensus was that these games haven't aged well in their time and haven't gotten better with age. The improbably high user score remains a curious oddity to the Metascore.

7. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact

Metascore: 53, User Score: 3.5

This manga-based fighter was met with widespread disappointment from both professionals and fans. Issues included a small fighter lineup and a minimal offering of features. Fan reaction was notably harsh, with some voicing a desire that the title's flop would have consequences for similar releases.

6. Neptunia Riders Vs Dogoos

Metascore: 51, Audience Score: 5.3

Based on the anime-style Hyperdimension Neptunia series, this vehicle combat game tasks players with collecting cute monsters. The assessment was that its effort to channel a *Katamari Damacy*-like experience didn't land, coming across as more of a low-effort product than a meaningful addition to the franchise. Its brief runtime combined with a $40 price tag seemed like a bold choice.

5. Captain Blood

Aggregate Score: 50, Audience Score: 5.3

This title is a resurrected relic from the mid-2000s, finally released after nearly two decades in production delays. The developers consciously chose to preserve the game as an period-accurate product of its time, fully aware that modern gamers might criticize its old-school mechanics. As such, many reviews noted that the interesting history of its journey was more interesting than the actual gameplay.

4. Scar-Lead

Aggregate Score: 44, Audience Score: 2.4

This anime-art roguelike shooter drawing from games like *Returnal* failed to impress with critics. Frequent criticisms included bland enemy design, repetitive levels, and a forgettable story. A controversial mechanic involving the character's attire was widely panned and took away from the game's overall experience.

3. Paramedic Simulator

Aggregate Score: 44, User Score: 4.9

Think of the strategic surgery games of the past, then take out the compelling story. That, according to reviews, is essentially *Ambulance Life*. Players found the core gameplay loop to be a slog, and the narrative's handling of its subject matter was criticized as being poorly executed. The overall experience was deemed not very compelling.

2. Tamagotchi Plaza

Aggregate Score: 43, User Score: 5.8

This shift away from the classic virtual pet formula turns the franchise into a minigame collection title. The result, per critics, was a dull assortment of basic activities that quickly grew tiresome. Some reviews went so far as to call it one of the most disappointing titles available on its platform, pointing to a profound lack of depth.

1. MindsEye

Aggregate Score: 37, Audience Score: 2.5

Arriving as a blockbuster crime saga from a studio led by industry veterans, *MindsEye* was a catastrophic critical flop. Reviews savaged its lousy combat, uninspired storytelling, and a host of game-breaking glitches. Critics found it to be a downgrade compared to previous-generation games in the action genre. Among the sea of negativity, a small handful of positive user reviews found fun in the experience, providing a lonely contrast.
